Little moments

Writing last night was so fun, I wish I had been writing more diligently the whole time here!  But whatever.  Still another month to document!  Here are some other fun stories/moments from the past couple months:

- Last week I was bored and wanted to get out of my house but didn't really have anything to do.  I didn't want to go the mall or anything because I was craving candy but knew if I didn't go to a store then I wouldn't have the temptation at home haha.  I ultimately decided to go to the sea turtle resort, and decided to walk so it would take longer.  The resort actually only has about 6 turtles in captivity, but I ended up seeing twice that many from the bridge on my walk there!  It was so cool.  Kind of ironic, too.  I love living somewhere with such cool things to see!  Haven't seen monkeys in a few months, but it must be a good season for turtle watching because I see them almost every time I go down to that end of the beach.  SO COOL! :)

- I love the beach.  A lot.  Which indicates just how crazy it was the other day when I got to the beach to meet Flavia and was basically like, "Nope. This is not happening." haha.  It was SO insanely windy!  I think it was around 50km/hr, which isn't actually too bad...unless you're on a beach and it means that you're being pelted with sand going that same speed haha.  The wind was so strong it was picking up sand and hitting me all the way up my legs (as opposed to when it's light enough to just be on my feet or something, which you can usually put up with).  It was nuts.  We decided to go chill at the park instead of being miserable in the sandstorm.  :P

- The wild guinea pigs at the park had babies!!!  The weather here is so weird (aka...warm all year) it's been hard to remember that the seasons are changing the same way they do back home.  Every now and then I catch a whiff of flowers or barbecues that make me think of summer and how close it is (except not really because I'm going back to winter instead of summer...boo).  Finding the baby guineas at the park was SO fun though because it reminded me of what a fun season this is.  They are so freaking cute.  There was a black and white one, a tricolor one, and my favorite was black and tan; he was mostly black but had little patches of cinnamon colored fur that gave him just a bit more personality.  *sigh*.  Animals are the best :D

And to end with my personal favorite (that still makes me laugh every time I think about it :) :

- So to get this story you have to know that there are two words in Portuguese (cerveja and cereja) that I never really bothered to learn because the context usually tells me which one it is.  Cerveja is beer (so I never order that from a menu) while cereja is cherry.  So there's basically no overlap in the context I find these words in, but I haven't had a problem with usage despite never being able to remember which is which.....  until yesterday.

Yesterday when I was at the bishop's house, they offered me some candy.  It's one of my favorite candies from Brazil (called TriBalas), but I had never tried the kinds they had!  Everyone in their family speaks English really well except the bishop, so I always try to speak Portuguese to him.  Anyway, so I had popped one of the cherry ones in my mouth and then thanked the bishop, and told him "I really liked the beer flavored ones". ...... oops.  hahaha.  I don't think the bishop actually even noticed but the kids were cracking up.  It was SO funny, and probably one of the best language moments I've ever had (made even better by the context of saying it to my bishop hahaha).
