Friends are the best

So I was going to do a post on Lisa's visit here (hence the title), but am realizing that...it's going to turn into a very long post if I do that.  She was here for almost 6 weeks and we took some awesome trips.  Instead, I'm going to give a shortish outline here of what our itinerary was like during her stay (and probably boring to everybody but me, so no obligation to read it haha), and then I'll do separate posts for the big stuff we did (hopefully three: Fernando de Noronha, Rio, and our adventures here in Vitória).

Note:  I have the best friends ever.  Lisa came to visit, and Desiree is coming soon, and I might even get Kaitlyn down here!  I'm not sure if they're more excited to see me or Brazil (haha) but it's so great to have friends come from home.  I'm so grateful that they're all willing to spend time and money to come visit :D

Lisa got here June 16th.  It was pretty much all I had been thinking about for a few days (or maybe weeks) before she got here.  I was SO excited to see her!  Her flight didn't get in till 8pm though, which made for a very loooong day.

Anyway, the time finally came when I got to pick her up from the airport!  I met her there and we taxied home to drop off her stuff, then we went to my favorite restaurant here for our tradition of Taco Tuesday.  (Yes, it is funny that my favorite place to eat here is a Mexican place.  But they have THE best juice I have had probably in my life, and their tacos are divine.)

We stayed in Vitória for a few more days while I took care of some more teaching, etc, then we flew out!  Our itinerary seemed awesome when we booked it, but ended up being kind of crazy.  We flew to Rio on Thursday night and spent the night in a....kind of sketchy hostel out in the middle of nowhere haha.  The next morning we went super early to the other Rio airport and flew to Sao Paulo, then to Recife, then to....FERNANDO DE NORONHA!!!!

The time we spent there was AWESOME.  It was like all my favorite things of Brazil and Tonga combined on a tropical island that basically only has buses and dune buggies.  *sigh.*  I'll write more about that trip soon.

We spent about 5 days in Fernando, then flew back to Rio for another 4 or 5 days.  We had found really cheap tickets to Fernando roundtrip through Rio (they were crazy expensive to go directly from Vitória), so that's why we decided to tack on the Rio trip at the same time.  If I did it again, I probably would have connected the trip to Natal or Recife, and done Rio separately, buuut....whatever.  20/20 hindsight.

Rio was just as awesome as I remember.  We had beautiful weather, and had tons of fun.  We kept busy doing hikes, museums and tours---we didn't even make it to the beach!  (which if you know me, is saying something.)

We then came back to Vitória.  We hoped to pull off a trip to Chapada Diamantina or the pantanal, but unfortunately that didn't happen.  Lack of planning put us too close to our travel dates and tickets were crazy expensive.  But we had lots of fun here, and took advantage of all the cool touristy things in Vitória that I hadn't explored yet.

Having Lisa here was the best thing ever.  And now I know about the cool stuff in Vitória, so if anyone else wants to come visit, I'll know just where to take you! :D
